Believing Sophie could serve as a supportive figure for Meghan, the Queen reportedly encouraged Meghan to accept her guidance. “The Queen wanted Meghan to make a success of the marriage and of her new role, and indeed did everything that she could to encourage that,” Brandreth told the Daily Mail.
“She suggested Sophie Wessex might help her, be a sort of mentor,” he added, noting that Sophie was known for her loyalty, quiet grace, and experience.

“The Queen (who, of course, had seen it all before) understood that Harry’s girl might find adjusting to royal life ‘challenging to begin with,’” Brandreth wrote. The Queen reportedly described the early days of royal life as “jolty”—a bumpy and unpredictable ride—but one that newcomers typically adjust to over time.
Despite this, Meghan chose not to take advice from within the family, which may have added to early tensions between her and other royal members.
