Perrie Edwards Opens Up About Pregnancy Loss: Perrie Edwards’ Heartbreaking Revelation: ‘Traumatized’ by Devastating Miscarriages.
Perrie Edwards, the beloved Little Mix star, has opened up about the profound pain of suffering multiple miscarriages, including a deeply traumatic loss at 24 weeks.
In an emotional interview on the “We Need to Talk” podcast, the 32-year-old singer shared her story, shedding light on the heartbreak she and her fiancé, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, endured. Edwards’ candid revelations offer a raw glimpse into her personal struggles, resonating with many who have faced similar losses.
A Painful Loss at 24 Weeks
Edwards tearfully recounted the “horrendous” miscarriage she experienced in 2022, which occurred at 24 weeks of pregnancy. The loss came after she and Oxlade-Chamberlain, a professional footballer, returned from a vacation in Portugal.

During a routine doctor’s appointment, Edwards sensed something was wrong. “I just looked at Alex and I thought, ‘Something’s not right,’” she recalled. The ultrasound confirmed her fears, and the doctor delivered devastating news. Edwards described the moment as an “out of body experience,” with everything moving in “slow motion.”
“That was just the worst day of my life,” she said, her voice breaking. “I was sobbing.” The couple was left in shock, with Oxlade-Chamberlain struggling to drive home as Edwards “couldn’t see straight.” Having already planned for the baby’s arrival, including preparing a room, the loss was particularly crushing. Edwards only shared the pregnancy with close friends and family, making it even harder when she had to tell them, “There isn’t one.”
A Secret Struggle During Little Mix Tour
The second miscarriage wasn’t Edwards’ first. She revealed she had been pregnant during rehearsals for Little Mix’s 2022 tour, discovering the news just before her son Axel’s first birthday in August 2022.
“I was at rehearsals and I thought, ‘Oh, I don’t feel good,’” she said, describing a range of symptoms that led her to suspect she was pregnant. A test confirmed her suspicions, but Edwards kept the news private while performing on tour from April to May 2022.

The tour brought additional challenges. Edwards experienced heavy bleeding every night before performances, fearing she was losing the baby. “I remember sitting and thinking, ‘This is it, I’ve lost the baby,’” she said. Despite the distress, she felt compelled to continue, saying, “I can’t cancel the show. I have to put a brave face on.”
A scan revealed a blood clot around the sac, but the baby was still viable, which Edwards called a “miracle.” However, the bleeding persisted, and at her 24-week check-up, the heartbreaking loss was confirmed.
An Earlier Miscarriage and a ‘Rainbow Baby’
Edwards also shared details of a miscarriage she experienced before the birth of her son, Axel, in 2021. This earlier loss occurred early in the pregnancy, and while it was painful, Edwards noted it was less traumatic because it happened so soon after discovering she was pregnant.
“I started bleeding not long after,” she said, recalling a hospital visit where a scan confirmed there was “no baby.” Reflecting on the experience, she said, “It didn’t impact me that much because it was very early.”
In contrast, her pregnancy with Axel, whom she calls her “rainbow baby,” was a source of immense joy. Edwards and Oxlade-Chamberlain welcomed their son in August 2021, after keeping much of the pregnancy private. “It was one of the happiest moments of my life,” she said, highlighting the light Axel brought after her earlier loss.
Navigating Grief and Public Life
Edwards’ openness about her miscarriages underscores the challenges of grieving privately while living in the public eye. As a member of Little Mix, formed on “The X Factor UK,” she has spent over a decade in the spotlight.

Balancing her career with personal struggles required immense strength, particularly during the 2022 tour when she performed through uncertainty and loss. Her decision to share her story now reflects a desire to connect with others who may feel alone in their grief.
Edwards and Oxlade-Chamberlain, who went public with their relationship in January 2017 and got engaged in June 2022, have faced these challenges as a team. Their bond has been a source of support, even as they navigated the emotional toll of their losses. Edwards’ vulnerability in sharing her story highlights the universal pain of miscarriage, a topic often shrouded in silence.
A Message of Resilience
By speaking out, Edwards hopes to raise awareness about the emotional impact of miscarriage. Her story is a reminder of the strength it takes to carry on after loss, both personally and professionally.
As she continues her journey as a mother, partner, and artist, Edwards’ honesty offers comfort to others facing similar experiences, proving that even in the darkest moments, there is hope for healing.
